We have consolidated 30+ production servers and 10+ dev/test servers down to 7 physical servers with virtualization. Those 7 servers are still more power than what we truely need. We can remove 2-3 of those physical machines at any time and still run at full speed and capacity.

There have been so many benefits that I can't list them all. It isn't until after you have it in place that you realize the full power of virtualization. Just this weekend when I was performing maintenance on a live server, I took a quick snapshot before applying updates. If the updates failed for any reason, I would have quickly been able to revert back to the snapshot and troubleshoot later. If it had failed, troubleshooting would have involved me cloning the server into a test network, applying the patch again, and troubleshooting what went wrong. Once I figured out what it was, I could delete the cloned server, and go try again on the production server. This was all but impossible before virtualization. Can't say enough good things about it.
